South Burlington, Vt. – Vermont Gas employees are once again pitching in and picking up trash along our roads ahead of the state’s Green Up Day festivities. Along with becoming a ‘Davis Friends’ sponsor of Green Up Day Vermont, the Vermont Gas team collected dozens of bags of litter and trash around the city of South Burlington to help kick off Vermont’s 47th annual Green Up Day celebration, which officially take place on Saturday, May 6.

“Vermont Gas’ mission is to make cleaner choices today for a brighter future tomorrow – and that’s just what the Green Up Day celebration is all about,” said Tom Murray, vice president of customers and communities. “This effort coincides with our work every day to help our customers reduce their energy needs and their carbon footprint and make our state greener.”

Natural gas is the clean, reliable and affordable heating choice of more than 50,000 customers in Chittenden, Franklin and now Addison counties. By making the switch to natural gas and by participating in the Company’s efficiency programs, customers last year averted over 289,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That is the equivalent to the annual energy use of 30,000 homes.

“Vermont Gas’ enthusiastic employees who clean up litter the day before Green Up Day help lighten the load for others in South Burlington, draws attention to the big day, and encourages people to join with family friends and neighbors in their communities on Green Up Day,” said Melinda Vieux, president of Green Up Vermont.  “We also appreciate the Company coming on board with funding support to help cover costs of this massive statewide endeavor to keep Vermont green and clean.”

“Our team was thrilled to be part of the effort to clean up this beautiful state we live in,” Murray continued.
